Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Farouk Hosny graduated from the College of Arts, University of Alexandria in 1964.
Throughout his busy career, he has held a large number of leadership positions, mainly Director of Alexandria Palace of Culture, Cultural Attaché at Egyptian Embassy and Director of Egyptian Cultural Center in Paris (1971 - 1978), Head of the Directorate of Culture, Cairo (1978) and Director of the Egyptian Academy of Arts, Rome, Italy. He acted as Minister of Culture, since 1987.
He formulated the first Egyptian Cultural Policy that emphasized youth creativity. He also helped to establish the Supreme Council for the Preservation of Archeological Site, turning the Book Center into an independent center.
Farouk Hosny's achievements include as well a diversity of international accomplishments in the field of cinema and theatre and national and international carnivals.
His role has been remarkable in the expansion of the Academy of Arts, restoration of Egyptian archeological Pharaonic, Coptic and Islamic sites, the development of a system of coordination among civilizations and the establishment of 22 museums in Egypt; the famous Nuba Museum is one of them
Farouk Hosny is currently engaged in the establishment of a museum located close to the Pyramids, another museum in Fostat area, Cairo, renovation of Egyptian Book Center and restoration and preservation of its invaluable documents and books.
His efforts were rewarded in 1995 with Egypt wining for the first time the International Venice Pinali A ward
