Museum of Islamic Art launches new Education Centre

• “The Art of Learning” is the inaugural program of activities for all community members from 11-15 October including: art workshops, lectures, discussion sessions and more.
• Education Centre aims to promote community engagement with the Museum of Islamic Art.
• Facilities include: library specialized in Islamic art, classrooms, workshops and a computer lab.

Doha 10 October, 2009 – The Education Centre at the Museum of Islamic Art has opened its door to the public offering a variety of activities catered to all age groups.
The new centre will function as an educational, academic and research institution specialized in Islamic art and open to scholars to exchange ideas and discuss research topics.  As such, it will play a role in the production, dissemination and utilization of knowledge.
Commenting on the significance of the Education Centre, Mr Abdulla Al Najjar, CEO of Qatar Museums Authority stated: “The launch of the Education Centre is an important accomplishment for the Museum of Islamic Art.  Its objectives lie in educating members of the community by involving them in interesting activities pertaining to Islamic art.  In addition, it will function as an open space for academics and specialists to discuss ideas and conduct research.  In sum, the Education Centre at the Museum of Islamic Art is valuable resource active throughout the year and we extend an open invitation to anyone interested in benefitting from it.”   
The opening program of the Education Centre called “The Art of Learning,” will extend from 11-15 October, is highlighted with a conference titled “Partnership in Art Learning: Museum, School and Community.”  The conference features academics and practitioners from Qatar and other countries including: Egypt, Jordan, UAE, Sudan, UK and the US.
Looking into the future, the Education Centre plans to establish joint programs and partnerships with other educational institutions, such as schools and universities in Qatar and abroad.
The Education Centre contains a range of superb facilities including a library specialized in Islamic art with approximately 10,000 titles.  There are also several classrooms, workshops and a computer lab.
