1st Ladies Tour of Qatar, the cycling tour

A brand new event on the calendar of women’s world cycling, the 1st Ladies Tour of Qatar will comprise three stages and will be held from the 8th to the 10th of February 2009.
With their customary commitment and rigour, the sporting authorities of Qatar were eager to create a select event to occupy a prime position among specialists in the discipline, and serve as a professional benchmark for female champions.
Qatar will receive the world’s elite in women’s cycling, and will thus participate in the founding of a prestigious new race.
Equally prestigious are the stage starts from the magnificent and recently inaugurated Museum of Islamic Art, the Qatar Foundation and the Camel Race Track.
The cycling tour is made up of 15 teams of six riders competing across three stages. The first stage started on the 8th Feb 09 from the Museum of Islamic Art on a 94 km route, before finishing at Doha Shafallah. The final two stages will take place on the 9th & 10th Feb over 110km and 109km respectively.
