Corrodi was the son of the landscape painter, Solomon Corrodi. The father was professor at the Academy of Fine Art in Rome and taught his son. Corrodi made several journeys to the East: North Africa, Egypt, Syria, Turkey and Palestine. His colourful paintings were particularly appreciated by the Emperor William II and by the Prussian aristocracy. This unique and colourful painting shows one of the last floods of the Nile which brought water nearly to the bottom of the Pyramids plateau.
In 1902, the construction of the first Aswan dam started. This was completed in 1908 and suppressed forever the extraordinary and unique natural phenomenon of the annual flood which had contributed to the richness of ancient Egyptian civilisation.
