Archaeological investigations and explorations began in Qatar since the mid fifties of the last century, specifically in (1957) when Danish archaeological team expanded survey that included most of north-east, north-west and the inland area regions .Those surveys and the archaeological excavations have shown the existence of cultural and historical sequence that dates back to the Neolithic period which also called " al_ubaid " culture.
Between the years (1961-1964) more sites were discovered that were attributed to the stone ages, in addition to the discovery of sites and cities attributed to later periods.
The periods of those sites and cities can be dated back to the Bronze Age and then to the Iron Age, Greek and Roman eras, and to Islam era as well.
Example of early Islamic eras is found in the Ruins of Merweb site that which attributes to the beginnings of Abbasid and the city of Zubara, dates back to the late Islamic period.
