There are many archaeological sites dating back to the pre Islam and the Islamic period.
The most important sites of the early Islam period are Merweb which located near the northwest coast of the State of Qatar.
This site had revealed antiquities of what is known as the early Islamic period and the dated back between the eighth and tenth centuries A.D
The antiquities of Merweb are on of the most important discoveries in Qatar.
*The sites that belong to what is known as the late Islamic period is the city of Zubara, which flourished throughout the Arabian Gulf region between the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries A.D.
