Mosques

The Restoration Departments restored many traditional mosques in coordination with Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs according to the artistic standards of buildings' restoration.
  • Abu Manartain Mosque No 328 (Al-Wakra)
  • Sumaisma Mosque No 468 (Sumaisma)
  • Al-Owaina Mosque No 367 (Dukhan)

 

Al-Wakra Castle (Al-Wakra)

Al-Wakra Castle (Al-Wakra) Al-Wakra Castle is located in Al-Wakra. It was built above the ruins of an older castle. It has two round towers and was used in the past as a police office. It dates back to the 20th C.

 

Abdulla Bin Thani's House (Gharrafa)

Abdulla Bin Thani's House (Gharrafa) The house is located to the west of Qatar and it dates back to the period before 1953. It owned by Sheikh Abdulla Bin Thani and used for living. This house was surrounded by an agricultural area. It contains 6 rooms and an attic room. The house was restored in 2005 by the direction of Restoration Departments.

 

Al-Nejada Houses (Al-Nejada)

 

Al-Nejada Houses (Al-Nejada) It is located in one of old Doha streets. They are old houses that date back to more than 60 years ago. They are made of traditional material such as stones, mud ..etc. They differ in size according to the type and number of families who inhabited them. The Restoration Departments of Qatar Museum Authority directed restoring one of those houses by Persian Workers.

Sheikh Ghanim Bin Abdulrahman House (Al-Wakra)

Sheikh Ghanim Bin Abdulrahman House (Al-Wakra) This house is a significant architectural landmark on the beach. This building consists of two floors and windows are decorated in special shapes. It was restored in 2004 by the direction of Restoration Departments.

Al-Shaqab Stable

Al-Shaqab Stable It is located in Al-Rayyan 10kms away from Doha. It dates back to the 20th C. It was owned by Sheikh Abdulla Bin Jassim. The stable contains a number of rooms including stables, stores and a manger for horses.

Al-Wajba Castle (Al-Wajba)

Al-Wajba Castle (Al-Wajba) It is located 15 km away from the Northern west of Doha and it has a lot of desert trees.

The significance of this castle dates back to the famous battle when Qataris defeated the Ottomans in 1310 Hijra, 1893 by the lead of Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammad Al- Thani, Governor of Qatar in that period.

 

Irkayyat Castle (Al-Shamal)

Irkayyat Castle (Al-Shamal) The castle is located 110 kms away from Doha, specifically in the Eastern North of Qatar 5 miles away from Al-Zubara and two kms away from Al-Thaqab. It dates back to the 17th C. The castle has four corner towers: three rectangular towers and one three-quarters circle tower. Some coins were discovered in the castle and they date back to the First Abbasid State. The Castle is built of old natural material such as stones and mud. It was restored in 1988.

 

Al-Thaqab Castle (Al-Shamal)

Al-Thaqab Castle (Al-Shamal) This castle dates back to the period between 17th and 19th C. It is located 110 kms away from the Western North of Doha. The castle is rectangular and is one of the desert castles. It is located on the coast of Qatar Peninsula. The castle was restored in 2003 by the direction of Restoration Departments.

 

Al-Mufair Village (Al-Shamal)

Al-Mufair Village (Al-Shamal) A small deserted village located in the Northern East of Qatar, 8 kms away from the east of Al-Ruwais. The houses are built of stones and mud and were inhabited by Al- Fudhala Family. The people of this village worked in Pearl diving and Fishing. In 1988 a part of the village was restored to be used as a set for the Qatari TV series (aldaloob). In 2006 The Restoration Departments of Qatar Museums Authority carried out some rapid restoration for the Asian Games torch relay.

 

Barzan Tower (Umm Silal Mohammad)

The tower is located in Umm Silal Mohammad approximately 20 kms away from Doha city. It was established by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Jassim Al-Thani and it dates back to 1910.
