Costumes, Textiles & Jewellery - Traditional textile weaving for clothes, carpets and tents

Weaving and textiles, taken as one, are a most important trade that marked the progress of mankind and the focal point of attention for many of the ancient world’s civilisations.

QMA Collection of Costumes, classified as 20th Century heritage, is particularly valuable in its relation to the history of Qatar and of the Gulf region. The Bedouin weaving called sedu, a hand made weaving reflected in a variety of covers, carpets, tent parts and horse & camel equipment collected from the desert of Qatar forms the most distinctive objects of QMA costumes & textile collection.

In Qatar, there is a wide range of traditional clothes for men and women. Traditional clothes include all kinds of dress; for women, men, girls, boys and children; there are clothes for tradesmen and robes for those who occupy certain public positions. When we talk about clothes, we also mean ornaments, trinkets, jewels and clothes accessories.
